In Devon, Barnardo’s SW currently manage nine children’s centres on behalf of the County Council, located in:
o Crediton
o Culm Valley
o Dartmouth
o Kingsbridge
o Newton Abbot
o Moors Edge (Heathfield and surrounding areas)
o Okehampton
o Tavistock
o Tiverton
Children’s centres provide services, advice and information for families with children aged under five years. Information such as parenting, child development, play and staying healthy are regularly provided at children’s centres. The children’s centres also run outreach provision in many rural areas surrounding the main towns.
We also support the children and partners of people in the prisons in Devon, Channings Wood, Exeter and Dartmoor. We run parenting classes for the prisoners, family group conferences, opportunities for families and prisoners to spend time together as well as provide support and advice for families of a parent in prison.
Our childminder support service work with all childminders across South Hams, West Devon and Teignbridge. We help childminders to provide a top quality service, provide regular training sessions, information about the latest developments in their profession and offer a home visit, once a year.
