The Year 2002 saw a big change in the way that The British Red Cross works with young people. After a great deal of soul searching it closed its traditional Youth Groups. This was traumatic for the Young people and their leaders.
It is now working in the following ways:
- Promoting humanitarianism and First Aid in schools
- Peer risk education schemes
- Exploring volunteering at home and abroad
- Crisis Response involving young people
So far the work has involved preparation for the changes in work practice and searching for volunteers.
The young persons Refugee/Asylum Seekers Project is still running in Exeter though more funding and volunteers are urgently needed. The age range for this work is 18 - 25 and it is peer befriending.
