The Award is a programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities designed for use by all agencies having a concern for the development of young people. It is an influence on the development of the young people. At any one time in Devon there are about 6,000 young people undertaking the Award working in approximately 200 groups. The programme is flexible enough to meet their enthusiasms and aptitudes whatever their background or culture, however plentiful or limited their resources may be. Through a commitment to the programmes young people will acquire self-reliance and a sense of responsibility. It is a vehicle for spiritual, personal and social development for all young people of all abilities.
