DRUGS RESOURCES

Government drugs information service FRANK has teamed up with the Fostering Network to help foster carers anyone working in the fields of mentoring and parenting  deal with the issue of drugs. The organisations have launched a resource pack on the back of research by Frank that shows foster carers and those in care face many barriers when it comes to talking about difficult issues, particularly drugs. Frank consulted looked-after young people and experienced foster carers to look into the different types of support they both need. The joint consultation revealed a need for guidance for first time foster carers and those with little experience in substance abuse on the difficulties young people in care face and how to talk to them about drugs. The resources include a pack with information on why children in care are a particularly vulnerable audience, how to talk to young people about drugs and the responsibilities as a foster carer to report suspected drug use.
